Les éléments de l'image sont numérotés pour identification, dans le texte en bas de l'image. / Bataille de Montmorency, dite aussi de Beauport, 1759 On July 31, 1759, Brigadier-General Monckton's troops attacked the French under General Montcalm who were camped along the St. Lawrence below Beauport. Hervey Smyth was an aide de camp to General James Wolfe. The Canadian landscapes engraved by Smyth were also included in a collection of views published by John Bowles, which are known collectively as Scenographia Americana (1768). Smyth's drawings were drawn on the spot and juxtaposed the British forces against dramatic Canadian landscapes. / Dédicace : Inscribed to the Right Honourable William Pitt, Esq one of his Majesty's most honourable Privy council, and principal Secretary of State / Extrait de "Six elegant views of the most remarkable places in the river and gulph of St. Laurence, from the originals drawn on the spot by captain Hervey Smyth, aid de camp of late general Wolfe, engraved by Canot, Sandby, Elliot and others" .
